What is it and why is it named that way ?

The Mandela Effect refers to the phenomenon where a large group of people remember something one way, but it turns out to be incorrect or different from reality, leading to false collective memories.

The term was created by Fiona Broome in 2009 after she discovered that many people, including herself, mistakenly believed that Nelson Mandela had died in the 1980s while in prison, even though he was released in 1990 and passed away in 2013.
